Constructed sometime between 1707 and 1720, this building served as a Chapel of Ease for members of Dorchester Parish who lived too far from Old Trinity Episcopal Church in Church Creek, MD, to conveniently attend services. The first church built on Taylors Island, it originally stood at the site now occupied by the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company. After Grace Episcopal Church was built in 1873, it ceased to be used for worship and later served as a school, blacksmith shop, voting place, community hall, and farm storage building. In 1951, the Grace Foundation of Taylors Island purchased it for $800, moved it to its present site, and restored it. The fireplace was not part of the original building and contains more than 5,000 bricks from old homes on Taylors Island, the flooring was restored using wood from old island buildings, and the balcony is original and reportedly was built of materials salvaged from a ship.
