William Oscar Osgood and his wife, Clara Rheams, owned and operated the Osgood General Merchandise Store on this corner for most of the first half of the 20th century, until it changed hands in 1943. The store stood at the center of a thriving community long known as Osgood Corner, and for several decades the local polling place was called Osgood Corner Precinct. The Osgoods also generously helped many neighbors survive the Great Depression.
