Dunns Creek State Park in Florida lies near the meeting of Dunns Creek, Crescent Lake, and the St. Johns River, about 15 miles south of Palatka on U.S. 17. Named for John Dunn, who received a 1765 land grant to farm the area, it also preserves evidence of much earlier Native American use through burial mounds. In the 20th century the land was worked for turpentining, logging, cattle ranching, farming, and as a steamboat stop and post office serving nearby communities. Added to the state park system in October 2001, it and the neighboring conservation area protect floodplain, water-storage lands, and miles of shoreline along Dunns Creek.
