During the Revolution, the Battle of Blackstock’s took place on William Blackstock’s plantation, 3 miles north on the south side of the Tyger River, on November 20, 1780. General Thomas Sumter commanded the American patriots, who repulsed Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton’s British forces. Sumter was wounded here, and this prevented him from taking an active part in the war for several months.
