At Port Columbus International Airport in Columbus, the Ohio History of Flight Museum preserved aircraft tied to Ohio’s aviation heritage. It grew from the work of pilot and flying-school founder Foster Lane, who began flying in the late 1920s and later restored the same Waco 9 his parents had bought for him. The museum organization formed in 1981, gained a permanent building at the airport in 1984, and expanded its collection with major additions and a public extension. After Lane’s death in 1995, the museum closed in 2000 when airport development displaced it. The collection then passed to the Ohio Historical Society and was later split among institutions.
