Eaglenest Mountain, also called Eagles Nest Mountain, is a peak in western North Carolina about 2 miles south of Maggie Valley in the Plott Balsams, a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains. It lies less than a mile south of the higher North Eaglenest Mountain and is associated with an early mountain resort enterprise. In 1900, S. C. Satterthwaite of Waynesville built the Eagle Nest Hotel on what is now North Eaglenest Mountain at an elevation of 5,050 feet, within a mountain group he called the Junaluskas. The hotel burned on April 22, 1918, and the mountain is now understood within the high country above Maggie Valley, Hazelwood, and Waynesville.
