Dedicated to veterans of 1898 to 1902, this tribute honors those praised by President McKinley for triumphing over obstacles that would have overcome men less brave and determined. On the base of the soldier appears the inscription “Hiker of ’98.” It was dedicated by the camps and auxiliaries of the Department of Georgia, United Spanish War Veterans, at the 18th Encampment on May 26-28, 1940.
