From September 14-17, 1862, Mississippi regiments of Gen. Bragg's army defeated Gen. Buell's Union forces at Munfordville, with 50 killed and 307 wounded. The Confederates destroyed the railroad bridge. The site of Fort Craig and the monument to Col. R. A. Smith are 1500 ft. west.
