The Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto preserves the mechanical and electrical inventions that shaped American life before the digital era, with collections ranging from early industry and telegraphy to household electrification and transportation. Founded from Frank Livermore’s private collection and opened to the public in 1990, it now holds more than 8,000 artifacts, though only a fraction are displayed at a time in rotating and permanent exhibits. It occupies the restored 1907 Williams House, designed by Ernest Coxhead for Dr. Thomas Marion Williams, along with its historically preserved garden, making the site significant both for its technology collections and its local architectural and landscape history.
