A fearless Indian fighter in over 30 battles, Michael Cassidy built Cassidy Station, located one mile south, in the later 1780s. A native of Ireland, he came to Va. as a cabin boy at age 12. He enlisted early in the Revolution and was with Washington at the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781. He later settled in Fleming Co., Ky., where he served from 1800 to 1806 as first senator and for several terms as a representative.
