Metcalf Hill, a mountain near Pierstown in central New York, preserves the memory of Arunah Metcalf, an early settler who moved to Otsego County in 1794. The hill is closely connected to his family’s local history: his son Orlando Metcalf was born there on August 17, 1797, and Arunah later served as Otsego County Sheriff from 1806 to 1810. Today, the mountain remains a modest landmark whose name reflects the area’s early settlement and the Metcalf family’s place in that history.
