Robert Frost Dagget, born in Indianapolis, Indiana, was a graduate of Indianapolis High School in the class of 1893, the University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture in the class of 1896, and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1901. He joined his father's architectural firm until entering World War, during which he engineered and built many field and base hospitals in France. After returning from the war, he became architect for Indiana, Purdue, and DePauw Universities and designed Jordan Hall at Butler University, the J. K. Lilly and Eli Lilly homes on Sunset Lane in Indianapolis, several buildings for the Indiana University School of Medicine, buildings for Long and Riley Hospitals, and several buildings for Eli Lilly and Co. In Hancock County, his notable work was Lilly Biological Laboratories, built in 1913 two miles west of Greenfield on U.S. 40. The complex consists of three buildings, with the Tower Building flanked by two adjacent two-story buildings connected to the main building by pergolas. The buildings are in the Spanish Colonial Revival style with red tile roofs and arched openings, and the Tower Building has a prominent 80-foot-tall tower with five levels topped by a pyramidal red tile roof. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
