To the east was once the Seneca Indian village Da-Yo-It-Ga-O, meaning "Valley begins to widen." The area included a spring used by Mary Jemison, White Woman of the Genesee, and the former location of Buffalo Tom's cabin, built by Mary Jemison's grandson in 1800.
