History
1
Archeologists believe that women and children gathered shellfish along the shore, using their feet and hands or digging with sticks or rakes, while men fished in the deeper waters of the lagoon or ocean with fish traps, nets, barbed arrows, or spears. The Timucuans would have chosen locations for obtaining food based on what was available there and may have returned repeatedly to the same spot. One possible use of this place was as a clam-processing site, though it may also have served other purposes.
