For almost 100 years, the Ventnor City Police Department has worked to maintain the safety of citizens and visitors in this seashore community. Over that time, it grew from a force of a half dozen officers and three motorcycle policing units into a more modern department with modern policing vehicles. Its officers use technology including computerized photo imaging systems, Lowjack theft recovery systems, computerized automatic criminal systems to check for outstanding warrants, and mobile data laptop computers in each vehicle that provide field access to the Criminal Justice Enforcement System. Combined with the officers' commitment, this technology has helped produce a response time of less than 2 minutes for service calls, a point of pride for the Patrol Division. The department also includes a community policing unit, a bike unit, DARE officers, and a rapid deployment rescue and recovery dive team operating in conjunction with the Ventnor City Fire Department.
