The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, Florida, grew from a small children’s museum founded in 1954 into a major regional institution for art, science, and history. Renamed in 1961, it expanded its mission, moved to Tuscawilla Preserve, and added a planetarium in 1972. Under executive director Gary Russell Libby, hired in 1977, it grew dramatically in size and reach. Its collections now include more than 30,000 artifacts, highlighted by the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, major Cuban and Americana holdings, and notable natural history specimens. It also manages historic and environmental sites that extend its educational mission beyond the main campus.
