Interested Baptists met on April 15, 1909, in the town's central school one block north and organized with 21 charter members. Dr. Webb Brame, a Baptist missionary-chaplain, was called as first pastor. During the first year, worship services were held at City Hall. A revival in July 1909 added 22 new members and raised $649 to buy a corner lot. The original wood-frame church building was dedicated on April 10, 1910. After Hurricane Katrina destroyed the worship center, administrative buildings, and educational buildings on August 29, 2005, the congregation voted to relocate the church campus to 300 North Cleveland Avenue.
