Fort Heiman was a Confederate fort erected in 1861. Federal forces occupied it in 1862. In the fall of 1864, Confederate General Forrest seized it. Using field cannon, his cavalrymen sank two Union river transports, captured another and a gunboat, and commandeered them. It stood due east, on this side of Kentucky Lake.
