Deaf Smith Courthouse is a brick building with marble veneer and interior, and it was the second marble courthouse built in the U.S. It cost $125,000, and after a hotly contested bond issue election, Judge John Slaton and the winners paraded down Main Street behind the band. It became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1965.
