The Horace Porter Home / La Maison d'Horace Porter
Arundel, Maine · Kennebunk, Maine
History
2
This Greek Revival home was built by Beniah Littlefield for Horace Porter in 1848 on land originally owned by Horace’s father, Joseph Porter, who operated a tin shop on the premises. Horace Porter was a wealthy merchant who had the house built for his retirement. After Porter’s death, the home changed ownership several times until the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Wells Water District purchased it in 1952 for use as its headquarters. The water trough in the front yard once stood on Main Street near the corner of Garden Street.
