Vic Fazio Yolo Wildlife Area is a 3,700-acre wetland restoration within the larger Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area in the floodplain between Sacramento and Davis, California. Built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and Ducks Unlimited and named for Congressman Vic Fazio, it forms part of a broader protected landscape that grew to more than 16,000 acres by 2001. Fed by Sacramento River floodwaters, the bypass is an Important Bird Area on the Pacific Flyway that supports diverse waterfowl. Managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, it combines habitat restoration with agriculture and is also known for California’s largest urban colony of Mexican free-tailed bats.
