The Coffey County Republican was Coffey County's oldest consecutively published newspaper, established in 1859. Its publishers included John Redmond from 1898 to 1953, Bill Batdorf from 1953 to 1973, Floyd S. Ecord from 1953 to 1973, and Glenn German from 1973 to 1998. Gene Traylor served as master printer from 1955 to 2005. A quotation attributed to Bill said, "Wot gits my goat is that the feller who never gives me any news is always hollerin' about they bein' no news in the paper."
