Nature
Lehman Hot Springs is a resort in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon, east of Ukiah on Oregon 244, centered on springs long used by Native Americans before white settlement. Regarded as the largest collection of natural hot spring pools in the Northwest, it developed into a resort in 1871. The spring water emerges at roughly 140 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and is cooled for bathing in pools of varying temperatures. In the early 20th century, photographer Walter S. Bowman captured its social life. After closing in 1975, the property was renovated beginning in 1982, repurchased by a longtime owning family in 2012, and reopened on a limited private-use basis.
