The Agawam Veteran War Memorial was dedicated on May 27, 1989, in honor of all Agawam veterans who served their country in times of need, especially those named there who died in war. It remembers local service members from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and includes a quotation from President John F. Kennedy that a nation reveals itself by the men it honors and remembers. The bell in the memorial’s duplicated tower had called children to the North Agawam Katherine G. Danahy Elementary School since 1900. The monument was designed by Thurston Munson F.A.R.A., and the committee appointed by the Town Council on January 19, 1982, included Andrew C. Gallano as chairman, Ruth A. Bitzas as veteran agent, Frederick Nardi as councilman, Walter T. Kerr, Samual F. Provo, Jr., and Mario Delucchi. It also remembers Andrew C. Gallano, 1913—1988, for his prolonged diligence in formulating, promoting, designing, and securing the memorial’s erection, and expresses appreciation to Anthony F. Albro, Harold O. Davis, Paul S. Galaska, Ronald Fortier, Michael LaFlamme, and Ronald H. Ashton.
