The First Baptist Church of Merton was founded on August 31, 1843, with nine members. Its 1855 building is a historic example of Greek Revival architecture with Colonial features and was selected for the Historical American Buildings Survey. A bell hung in 1886 once called people to public worship and is now rung on Memorial Day and other special occasions. After the church moved to its present site at N65, W28217 Hickory Hill Drive, the Village of Merton purchased the building in 2009 for use as a community center.
