Constructed in 1941, the Milan Army Ammunition Plant Housing Area, better known as Area Q, served as base housing for assigned military personnel as well as selected supervisors and employees of the plant from 1941 to 2004. Styled in classical revival domestic architecture, the thirty-two two-story, four- and five-bedroom homes housed thousands of residents over its 64-year history. Its direct connection to World War II activities gives Area Q historical significance in the history of the local community.
