Shawnee Springs served as a campsite for Indians and early settlers and, when the town of Graham was founded in 1872, supplied its water. Water was hauled from the springs in barrels to homes in the area, and women used the springs to wash clothes with sand as soap and trees and bushes as clotheslines.
