Inks Lake State Park is a 1,201-acre recreation area in Central Texas on Inks Lake along the Colorado River, opened in 1950. Known for swimming, camping, hiking, boating, and fishing, it features rocky, hilly terrain with forest, open ground, and native plants, including the popular Devil’s Waterhole swimming area. The park is also geologically significant: it sits on the eastern edge of a Mesoproterozoic exposure in the Llano Uplift, and Inks Lake Gneiss was named for this place. Development began in the 1930s with the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose boathouse, roads, and stone culverts helped shape the park, which also supports abundant wildlife and sport fishing.
