Colvin Run Mill, built around 1811 in Great Falls, Virginia, is a restored early nineteenth-century water-powered mill and the only surviving operational mill of its kind from that century in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Its machinery is a nationally significant example of automated milling technology that later influenced American industry. The mill was closely associated with the families who ran it, especially Addison Millard, who bought it in 1883; his family continued operating it until 1934. It also figured in nearby Civil War movements during the Battle of Dranesville. After abandonment and damage from highway construction, it was repaired and reopened as a museum.
