From 1941 to 1945, men and women from Beaverdam and the surrounding community served their country in World War II in what was called the war for the liberty of the world. The community honored all who served and especially remembered Claude O. Yarger, a technician fourth grade, who was killed in action on November 24, 1944, in western Germany. It also reverently recognized heroic deeds and noble sacrifices, including Elah E. Knepper, who was also killed in action or died in service.
