On October 1, 1952, 18-year-old Hank Aaron and the Indianapolis Clowns played here in one of 12 games of the Negro League World Series against the Birmingham Black Barons. During the series, Aaron batted .402 and slugged five home runs, leading his team to the championship. "Hammerin' Hank" later broke Babe Ruth's home run record by hitting 755 Major League home runs.
