Lakeshore State Park is a 22-acre Wisconsin state park on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, beside Discovery World and Henry Maier Festival Park. Wisconsin’s only urban state park, it brought restored lakeshore landscape into the city center on land formed from limestone left by Milwaukee’s Deep Tunnel Project in the 1980s. First known as Harbor Island, the site was created to protect Henry Maier Festival Park from erosion and shelter lagoon boats from storms. Set aside for public use in 1991 and established as a state park in 1998, it now combines engineered shoreline, restored prairie, trails, fishing access, and overnight boat slips.
