Bishop FC Barnes founded and established the Red Budd Holy Church in Castalia, North Carolina, in May 1959 and pastored Red Budd for more than 52 years. He was known as a pastor, teacher, preacher, and renowned gospel singer. He wrote and recorded the still-popular “Rough Side of the Mountain,” which remained number one on the Billboard charts for more than a year. Though not considered the most educated or sought-after man, he was remembered as a man of God filled with wisdom who led by example.
