Cumberland Head Light stands on Cumberland Bay of Lake Champlain in New York, where it served as a navigational aid on one of the region’s important inland waterways. Established in 1838 and first lit in 1868, the lighthouse is a conical limestone tower on a concrete and limestone foundation. It originally used a fourth-order Fresnel lens installed in 1856. Deactivated in 1934, it remains a historic reminder of the role navigation on Lake Champlain once played rather than an active beacon.
