Olomana is a three-peak ridge on windward Oahu near Kailua and Waimanalo, formed as an erosional remnant within the Koʻolau Volcano caldera. Historically, Olomana referred only to the first peak; the others were called Pakuʻi and Ahiki. The mountain is closely tied to Hawaiian tradition, including a legend of the giant warrior Olomana, slain by Palila, and another naming tradition linking Ahiki and Pakuʻi to associates of Chief Olomana. It is also known for a strenuous and increasingly hazardous hike: the first peak requires a rope-assisted climb, while the second and especially the third involve severe exposure, rescues, and multiple fatal falls in recent years.
