Built beginning in 1870 by Jacob Ott with his carpenter neighbor, August Gruensendorf, this two-level building served as both bakery and home, with the lower floor used for Ott's baking business and the upper floor as his residence. Ott had settled in Industry in 1865 after emigrating from Worms, Germany, married Friedricke Hoehne in 1872, and in 1875 became a trial minister in the Southern (German) Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, beginning a ministry career that lasted 40 years. In 1880 he sold the property to Fritz Holze, who operated a general store there, and in 1884 Edward Lindemann and Franz Getschmann bought the Holze store in partnership. Lindemann, whose family had emigrated from Wittenburg, Prussia, in 1854, bought his partner's half of the business in 1889, moved the store across the street in 1894, and then moved into the building with his wife, Julia, and their family. In 1899 he enlarged the house with additional rooms and a porch. In 1910 the Lindemanns' second son, Monroe, married Ella Ott, daughter of the original homeowners, and the couple lived in the house for 55 years. Ella's sister, Bertha Ott, moved there in 1946 after a career as a pharmacist in Ohio and was later honored by the Texas House of Representatives after her death. The house has a center passage floorplan and Queen Anne detailing, including diamond-shaped shingles in the pediment, gabled dormers, fretwork, and lathe turned spindle-style supporting posts.
