In 1899, Greenville Methodist Church was built with the best available materials and had seating for several hundred people. Mary Gleen recalled that in those days a school and a church were the life of a community. The church was torn down in 1942, and part of its salvaged materials were used to construct the church in new Greenville. In 1979, it was renamed Grace United Methodist Church.
