Newton White Mansion is a protected historic estate centered on a Neo-Georgian house completed in 1939 and designed by architect William Lawrence Bottomley for Captain Newton H. White, a United States Navy officer associated with the USS Yorktown, USS Lexington, and the USS Enterprise, which he commanded before World War II. Originally the centerpiece of a 586-acre dairy farm, the property became known locally as the Enterprise Estate. Although the broader farm landscape has changed, the house and its immediate grounds survive as a preserved historic place, significant for both their architecture and their connection to American naval history and the region’s country-estate past.
