In 1835 Rufus and Sarah Harrison settled on this property after traveling by ox team from Detroit. Their farm was said to be the first in Flushing Township to be cleared. Harrison died in 1856, and the farm was acquired by his son-in-law, William Schram. Schram and his wife, Harriet, continued to live here until the early twentieth century. The nearby well is thought to be the original, although its covering is modern.
