Built in 1842 by NY State and in use from 1845 to 1918, the 9 Mile Creek Aqueduct replaced an 1819 aqueduct located just downstream. It was one of 32 aqueducts on the 19th century Erie Canal. Its limestone arches and piers held a wooden water-filled trunk 144 feet long and 49 feet wide, carrying boats, people and products.
