Edward R. Madigan State Fish and Wildlife Area is a 974-acre conservation landscape south of Lincoln in central Illinois that combines the roles of state park and wildlife management area. Established in 1971 as Railsplitter State Park and renamed in 1995 for Lincoln native Edward R. Madigan, it centers on a 2.5-mile stretch of Salt Creek that supports habitat, fishing, and paddling. The area is a main Illinois pheasant hatchery, producing about 80,000 to 100,000 hatchlings annually, and also supports hunting, trails through woodland and creek-bottom habitat, a notably large American sycamore, and a herd of roughly 100 to 150 deer.
