On October 3, 1920, the Dayton Triangles played at Triangle Park against one of their long-standing rivals in the first game of the American Professional Football Association. Two years later, the league shortened its name to the National Football League. NFL historians and the NFL Hall of Fame recognize this game as the first National Football League contest.
