The Bugai Site near Bridgeport, Michigan, is a Middle Woodland period burial site recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was discovered in 1970 when sand excavation on private property exposed human remains. Later that year, amateur archaeologists Leo Purple and Arthur Graves conducted a salvage excavation, recovering the remains of at least 20 individuals. Most burials were bundle burials, and multiple objects had been placed with the dead. Artifacts from the excavation were donated to the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology and the Chippewa Nature Center in Midland, with the Nature Center transferring remains and objects to the university museum in 2006.
