Since the early days of Enosburg Falls, the river and dam were an important source of regional power. Before 1895 through 1915, the property was occupied by the Missisquoi Flouring Mill and Custom Facility, which included a water wheel powered grist mill, grain storage building, horse shed, blacksmith shop, wheel wright shop, and paint shop. The Owl's Head Creamery was added sometime between 1900 and 1905. On March 21, 1915, fire destroyed the entire complex, though remnants of the original foundations remain visible by the river's edge. Afterward, the L.L. Marsh Electric Power House was built. In 1930, the parcel was conveyed to the Village of Enosburg Falls, the power house was renamed the Village Electric Power House, and the Diesel Generator #1 building was constructed on its present site. Built in a utilitarian art deco style, the Diesel Generator #1 building contains a circa 1927 Fairbanks-Morse diesel generator, a 300 horsepower Model 32 E 14 machine weighing more than 20 tons and burning 30 gallons of diesel per hour, which supplied 250 kilowatts of power to the Village Electric and Light Department until it was decommissioned in 1996.
