Lost Valley Ski Area in Auburn, Maine, opened in 1961 and has grown into a small but significant year-round recreation center. Its 45-acre, east-facing mountain offers 22 downhill trails, 9 gladed areas, three terrain parks, and full snowmaking, with terrain designed mainly for beginners and intermediate skiers. The site also supports Nordic skiing and snowshoeing through trails operated by the Auburn Nordic Ski Association. A full-service base lodge provides dining, rentals, instruction, and other amenities, while summer brings activities such as mountain biking, running, concerts, and a nanobrewery. Despite its modest size, Lost Valley has helped develop several notable Maine skiers and Olympians.
