Schley County's jail was built in 1893 for $5,500. For many years, the sheriff's family lived in the jail and prepared meals for the inmates, a practice that continued through Sheriff Rigsby's term in 1945. The building remains in use today, though no longer as a jail, on West Oglethorpe Street; its original brick has been painted, and the original porch was replaced at some point.
