Chicken Coop
Industry
2
This little house gave chickens a place to roost at night and lay eggs during the day, while they were usually allowed to roam freely around the farmyard to help keep it free of insects. The young girls of the family usually fed the chickens and collected eggs from the nests for family breakfasts and for baking. Extra eggs could be bartered or sold, producing what the women of the household called "pin money."
