Cairngorm is a 2,610-metre mountain in Alberta’s Jasper National Park, in the Victoria Cross Ranges of the Canadian Rockies near the town of Jasper. Named in 1916 by Dominion Land Surveyor Morrison P. Bridgland after the Cairngorms of Scotland, it received official recognition from the Geographical Names Board of Canada in 1951. The mountain is formed from sedimentary rock laid down from the Precambrian to the Jurassic and later thrust eastward during the Laramide orogeny. Though its relief is considered modest, its summit rises sharply above Pyramid Lake, and its runoff feeds tributaries of the Miette, Snaring, and Athabasca rivers.
