Black Spring has generated pristine water for centuries and is named for the Black family, who lived on the land over 200 years ago. Producing over 600,000 gallons of water per day, it supplies nearby Red Oak Lake as well as potable water used to irrigate The Old Course. One of eight springs at the resort, it was first recognized by William McDermott, who, having discovered the abundant spring and local iron deposits, built the first steel mill in Pennsylvania.
