M-1900 Seacoast Ordnance
Military
A 1928 act of Congress made obsolete World War I weapons available to municipalities and veterans' organizations for commemorative purposes. The Stanley American Legion Post requested this 5-inch-bore artillery piece, and it was dedicated on Memorial Day in 1931. The gun had originally been used in a coastal defensive fortification and was dedicated in commemoration of all who have served in the military to preserve the country in patriotism, with the pledge that veterans will never be forgotten. A restoration took place in September 2003.
